Announcing Liz the zine's 10 year anniversary issue
Call for comic, collage, illustration, or written submissions
2024 marks ten years since the first zine I made was created and released back in 2014 when I was in my last year of college.
The first issue’s theme was “New Beginnings" because I desperately was in search of a brand new start. I wanted to leave the pain of growing as a person, the pain of falling for someone (who I would end up currently dating for the past 7.5 years! ha!!!!!!!), and the pain of human existence.
The amount of love I hold in my heart for 21 year old Liz is indescribable. I was such a young baby, searching for someone to hold her for a long time and support her and let her know how much she is loved even when she can’t feel it. As I thought about a theme for this special anniversary issue I tried to think about this young self and what I wish I could say.
I am happy to announce the 10th year anniversary issue of Liz the zine where I want YOU to contribute! The theme will be:
What would you want to share with your past self?
What is a secret you’ve been holding out on saying aloud to yourself?
How would you talk to your younger self now?
Are you still upset or angry with your past self?
Do you wish you could go back and give advice to your younger self or spoil how your future turns out?
Do you want to write a letter to someone you loved or hated but never could when you were younger?
What would you say to your elementary school best friend? Your high school enemy?
However you interpret the theme is how I would love for you to direct your artistic submission. I would be honored if you would contribute your art. Please forward this newsletter to anyone you may think would enjoy reading it or contributing to it.
The Details:
The zine will be available in the fall of 2024 but no set date yet.
I will be providing contributor copies for free. Specific number of copies per person is yet to be determined.
You can submit your finished comic, collage, illustration, short writing or poetry here. File requirements and necessary details are outlined in the form.
The issue will be published as a ~8.5x11 publication.
Please limit your work to 5 pages at most.
All work will be published in black and white ink.
Submissions are due August 15, 2024.
I will use my substack newsletter as well as the contributor email addresses collected to share progress and updates.
Currently in my 30’s — I still struggle with big feelings. I am a self-proclaimed “recovering avoidant attachment” lover. I still enjoy perfecting something but at least now I know my limits of when to say “fuck it”. I am still the same college-aged Liz in many ways. I have a lot of fun goodies in store for this special occasion which includes buttons (because who doesn’t love a classic zinester 2012 throwback of SO MANY BUTTONS as merch) and more secrets.
I can’t wait to hear from you all and please do ask questions. Thank you for being here to bear witness to the results of the last ten years!
